Heung-Joon Yang was formerly President and CEO of LG Life Sciences, Ltd. in Seoul, Korea. After announcing his retirement from LG, Dr. Yang founded Global Networks Services, Inc. (GNSI) and is the company's CEO. GNSI, with its team of professionals, offers clients access to expertise and networking to strategic investors, facilitates accessing sources of capital, and assists early stage technology companies in search of incubation facilities.
Before founding GNSI, Dr. Yang was President and CEO of LG Life Sciences, Ltd. where, in 1999, he led the spin-out of the Life Sciences Business prior to being appointed as the company's CEO. While at LG Life Sciences, he successfully led the registration and approval of Factive, a novel quinolone antibiotic with the U.S. FDA. This was the first time a Korean pharmaceutical company developed a novel drug that underwent U.S. FDA registration. For this, Dr. Yang was awarded the Gold Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit on the 39th National Inventions Day (2004). Prior to holding the office of President and CEO at LG Life Sciences, Dr. Yang held various other offices including Executive Vice President and General Manager of LG Chemicals, Life Sciences Business Unit, Senior Vice President, Strategic Business Planning, Vice President, Agricultural Chemicals Division, and Process Development Manager. Dr. Yang began his career in 1969 when he joined the 1st Fertilizer Company in Korea. He subsequently worked for Honam Ethylene Co., Ltd, where he undertook the building of the 2nd Naphtha Cracking Center in Korea.
Dr. Yang obtained a B.S. degree in chemical engineering in 1969 from Seoul National University. In 1989, he received his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. He also completed a program in Advanced Management from Seoul National University in 2002. Recently, Dr. Yang was Chairman, Korean Specialty Chemical Industry Association; Vice Chairman, Korean Pharmaceutical Manufacturer's Association; Vice Chairman, Korean Bio Industry Association; Chairman, Bio Executive Forum; Member of the Advisory Board on Bioengineering Policy for the Ministry of Science and Technology; and, Adjunct Professor of Bioengineering Department, Yonsei University.
