Dr. Anthony Jevnikar, M. Sc., M.D., F.R.C.P. (C)

Professor in the Department of Medicine, Microbiology and Immunology, Division of Nephrology, University of Western Ontario, Director of Transplantation Nephrology at London Health Sciences Centre, Director of the Transplantation, Immunity and Regenerative Medicine Program at the Lawson Research Institute (LHRI), and Scientist at the Robarts Research Institute (RRI). Current President of the Canadian Society of Transplantation. Scientific founder of Plantigen, a company focused on the creation of genetically altered plants for use in medical applications and now Chief Scientific Officer of that company. Basic research program has been in the areas of autoimmune renal injury, injury of islets following transplantation, and the use of CD45RB for tolerance induction. More recently the regulation of cellular injury and death by endogenous inhibitors of apoptosis as a means to promote allograft survival and novel approaches to immune tolerance induction using transgenic plants expressing human proteins. He has more than 60 articles published or in press, 70 abstract presentations and 5 book chapters. He has been involved in clinical research in transplantation and has been involved in trials studying the role of sirolimus, tacrolimus, cyclosporine and its analogues, mycophenolate, FTY720, DSG, anti-IL2 receptor antibody, anti CD7 antibody and anti-LFA antibody in renal transplantation.
